Happy Braces-Friendly Halloween

We know many of our Orland Park area patients love to celebrate Halloween, a night of creative costumes, spooky tricks, and lots of sweet treats. Dr. Sonneveld and his team want you to enjoy all the delightfully ghoulish festivities of Halloween, all while protecting your orthodontic appliances amid all the treat eating. Those who wear braces have to take a few precautions, as we don’t want any of our patients to have a frightful experience with broken braces. As your Oak Forest area orthodontist, Sonneveld Orthodontics has put together this guide that will allow braces-wearers to happily haunt on Halloween night!

Tips For A Braces-Friendly Halloween From Your Tinley Park Orthodontist

Halloween Foods To Avoid

Monsters with braces should avoid eating sticky, hard, or chewy foods, as these foods can get stuck in brackets and cause damage. Beware of:

  • Nuts
  • Licorice
  • Jelly beans
  • Hard pretzels
  • Gum
  • Candy corn
  • Lollipops
  • Caramel

Braces-Friendly Halloween Foods

Any treat that is soft and easy to chew is best for monsters with braces. Sink your teeth into:

  • Chocolates
  • Peanut butter cups
  • Ice cream
  • Gelatin

Keep Up Brushing & Flossing

Once it’s time to return to your haunted house for the night, it is best to brush and floss to get rid of any creepy food particles that have been left behind in your fangs and braces. This will help to prevent tooth decay as well.
