Metal braces are the OG of the orthodontic world. They are highly effective, work on even severe malocclusions, and are relatively inexpensive. Metal braces are even getting smaller and less noticeable, as well. While metal braces remain the most popular form of orthodontic treatment, they aren’t for everyone. Here are three popular alternatives.
Invisalign
Invisalign is growing in popularity thanks to its effectiveness, convenience, and near-invisibility. People with minor to moderate bite issues are good candidates for Invisalign. Invisalign works using a series of durable plastic trays specially designed to gradually shift your teeth into their proper places. People like that they can remove the trays to eat and brush, allowing them to eat whatever they want and clean their teeth more effectively. You do have to be careful, however, not to remove the aligners too frequently or your treatment will be delayed.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are the perfect choice for people who prefer the more conventional treatment of braces with the inconspicuous aesthetic of Invisalign. Like braces, ceramic braces are effective on the most severe orthodontic issues, but like Invisalign, these braces are nearly invisible. This is because the brackets and wires are either clear or tooth-colored. The downside of ceramic braces is that they run a bit more expensive than the traditional version.
Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are getting more attention in recent years as a solution to overcrowded or misaligned teeth. However, it is important to keep in mind that this “solution” is merely an aesthetic fix. Dental veneers are exactly what their name suggests: a teeth covering that gives you the appearance of having straight teeth. However, they do nothing to actually correct your bite. This means that all of the issues that can arise from teeth misalignment such as jaw pain, headaches, and poor dental health, are still a factor. If cosmetics are your only concern, you might be interested in dental veneers. Just be aware that bite issues are far more than just cosmetic problems.
